Woburn Abbey

Woburn Abbey is the home of the Marquess and Marchioness of Tavistock and their family. One of the most important private art collections in the world can be seen here, including paintings by Van Dyck, Gainsborough, Reynolds and Velazquez. In the Venetian Room there are 21 views of Venice by Canaletto. The collection also includes French and English 18th century furniture, silver and gold. The tour of the Abbey covers three floors, including the vaults, filled with exquisite French, Japanese, German, Chinese and English porcelain. There are beautiful gardens to walk in and picnic areas. Guided tours can be arranged for groups, also for groups who have a particular interest in one aspect of the collection such as porcelain, the Canalettos or furniture. Group visits are available in the closed season. The 3,000 acres of parkland surrounding the Abbey were landscaped by Humphry Repton in the 19th century. There are 9 species of deer, including the Pere David deer saved from extinction here at Woburn.
